I am a fully qualified Accredited Play Therapist, A Relational Therapist of Play and Creative Arts for young people and a Sand Tray Therapist. I offer individual play and creative arts therapies to children, adolescents and young people. I am a fully qualified teacher and after 33 years in education, teaching across primary schools in Devon and beyond I am aware of the many difficulties children, young people and adolescents face in today’s world.

Whatever the nature of the problem, usually you, as parents or carers can tell that something just isn’t right. Play and creative arts therapy has the power to create change for children and young people to make sense of their feelings and hopefully become a happier individual.

Sometimes it’s difficult to put our feelings into words, even as adults. This is the same for children and young people. Often finding the vocabulary to talk about what is going on for can feel difficult. Creativity and play are some of the most powerful ways of communicating and working things out. Play and Creative Arts Therapy enables the child or young person to explore their difficulties & understand them, often allowing them to alter their perspective, and adapt to the difficulties they are facing.

Play Therapy has been used with children from the age of 4 to 12 and Creative Arts Therapy and Counselling is suitable for adolescents and young people up to the age of 18 (or 25 in certain circumstances). My role is to facilitate creative activities whereby your child or young person is able to freely express themselves.

Please contact me to discuss things further. Should you decide to proceed, I will complete a referral with you and your child or young person. This gives us an opportunity get to know each other a little. We can then explore what might suit your child or young person in order to meet their needs. All clients a minimum of 12 sessions and if agreed by you, this may be extended to meet the needs of the child.

Sessions, where possible, are weekly as it is important that the therapeutic relationship allowed to develop and give child or young person the time to process the session. However this can be flexible to an extent and can be discussed at the referral stage.

Where appropriate I will hold a review meeting with to explore the impact of the therapy for your child or young person and consider further sessions.

I use mixture of non-directive and directive approaches, therefore, during the sessions your child may choose the activities which might be craft and art activities, puppets, roleplay, clay or sand tray or more directive activities such as story making, mask making, and the use of visualisation. If needed, aspects of psychoeducation might be included where, together, emotional responses and our body responses are explored. It is up to your child what they choose to use or whether they choose to use anything. Whatever is discussed, created or played with in the session will be confidential, between your child or young person and myself, this confidentiality enables trust to be built in the therapeutic process.

I work with children and young people from the age of 4 to 18, who have experienced a range of difficulties for example, difficulties in school, relationship difficulties, loss and bereavement, the impact of early life events, anxiety, neurodiverse presentations.
