Anna Thomson
Registered Nutritional Therapist and Health Coach specialising in disordered and selective eating
If food feels complicated, whether that’s emotional eating, bingeing, restriction, or you’re supporting a child who struggles with eating, I’m here to help you find a way through.
I support people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or distressed around food to build a more trusting relationship with eating.
How I work with you
My approach is collaborative, practical, and non-judgemental. I take time to understand what is going on for you and focus on realistic steps, so change feels manageable and sustainable. Where relevant, I can also support with co-occurring health concerns such as gut or hormonal issues.
I work from a non-diet, weight-inclusive approach, supporting you, or your child, to move away from shame and fixed rules, and towards a more flexible and trusting approach to food. Together, we focus on building skills that last, so eating feels less stressful, takes up less headspace, and feels more intuitive over time.
I draw on Intuitive Eating and Mindful Eating, alongside specialist training in eating disorders, emotional eating, ARFID, and neurodiversity. I take a trauma-informed approach, because change is easier when you feel safe and supported. In some cases, I work together with a therapist.
Who I work with
I work with adults struggling with emotional eating, binge eating, restriction, or bulimia, and with those who are tired of dieting and want a more sustainable way of eating. I also support parents of children with selective eating or other challenges.
I am not able to support clients who are medically underweight, or who need a higher level of clinical care than I can safely provide.
My training
I trained in Nutritional Medicine (BSc Hons) graduating in 2009 and hold a Master Practitioner qualification in Eating Disorders and Obesity, approved by the British Psychological Society. I am a Certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor, and have trained in Mindful Eating, Motivational Interviewing and Functional Imagery Training (also BPS-approved), Health Coaching (UKIHCA/PSI), and Level 2 NCFE CACHE Counselling Skills.
I have over 15 years of clinical experience supporting clients with health concerns as well as eating difficulties. I founded Nourishing Families CIC, a social enterprise delivering workshops and programmes in schools and community settings. I was Nutrition for Wellbeing Lead at the National Centre for Integrative Medicine for three years, working as part of their multi-disciplinary team. I currently also practise as a Nutritional Therapist for Wellness Cloud, an employee wellbeing platform.
I am a full member of British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine BANT, the professional body for nutritional therapy, and am registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council CNHC.
