We all have problems in life, but there can be times when we feel overwhelmed, low on resources, or confused about the best way forward. When our life doesn't seem to be working, its easy to become de-motivated and to stop doing what ever makes us feel better. We can get caught up in a habit of worrying and feeling stuck, and struggle to make sense of it all.
During times of stress we need additional support and a sense of perspective. This may not always be forthcoming and despite their best intentions, those close to us may give us unhelpful advice, or simply not understand. When our challenges seem to be longer term it's also common to want to avoid burdening others. For these reasons many people have found counselling to be helpful and supportive.

How I Work
From working with clients in different settings over the past 18 years I have found most client's just want to feel comfortable and safe sharing their problems without being judged, to feel understood and to be able to see their problems from a different perspective. Change is not always an easy process and from my own experience people don't usually seek counselling unless they are experiencing significant discomfort. While we all go through pain at some time in our lives, I believe suffering is optional and even the most difficult of circumstances can be improved in some way.
As a solution focused, Integrative Counsellor I work well with people who want to to make changes which will contribute to their well-being and prefer to have focused, practical support doing this. I am committed to working collaboratively with you to help you discover your own inner resources and to try different approaches that work more effectively for you.
I am an Accredited Counsellor with 18 years experience of working with clients in various settings. I also have a passion for personal growth and development, which has has led me to integrate a wide variety of therapeutic approaches, research and techniques into my practice. I have a special interest in the latest research on Neuro-Science as this field give us a clearer understanding of how the mind works and how unconscious processes can inadvertently hijack our beliefs, emotions and patterns of behaviour. By understanding our unconscious programming we can explore ways of changing negative patterns, thoughts and beliefs and find coping strategies that work for you.

What Can I Expect?
Some clients call for an informal chat, or make an enquiry by email first before deciding whether to book an appointment. I am happy to assist with any enquiries without any obligation. It is important that you feel comfortable with the Therapist you choose, and I am happy to provide information about what to expect before you decide whether working together is the right way forward for you
Usually counselling lasts for an hour once a week. It can be for a few sessions, as a one off session, or more typically it can continue over weeks, or months depending on what you prefer.
